‘A new low’ – Social media explodes as Chelsea sell Conor Gallagher, sign Joao Felix & ruthlessly exile both Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell all in one bonkers day
Chelsea has been criticised for hitting a “new low” following a tumultuous day at Stamford Bridge, which had one player departing, two being banished, and another joining the team.
Chelsea offloaded Gallagher and acquired Felix from Atletico Madrid. The Blues faced backlash from fans on social media regarding the transaction.
The handling of Sterling and Chilwell has also sparked controversy.
During a busy day for the Premier League team, they transferred academy graduate Conor Gallagher to Atletico, while reacquiring Portugal international Felix from the Madrid side to Stamford Bridge. Currently, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell have been removed from the team since the club intends to sell them.
The Blues used Kanye West’s song “Homecoming” into a video showcasing Felix on the training ground, accompanied by the caption: “Home again.” That elicited a furious response from certain individuals. Felix had a brief loan spell at Chelsea in 2023 before permanently joining the club, coinciding with Gallagher’s departure after 18 years with the team.
Furthermore, the choice made by coach Enzo Maresca to banish Sterling and Chilwell has sparked debates among fans of the Blues.
“Employing the Homecoming tradition to publicise the return of a previous loaned player, whom you have only acquired to facilitate the transfer of a genuinely locally developed player, is a deplorable action,” expressed a fan on X.
Chelsea’s utilisation of the “homecoming” strategy for a player who was on loan with them for barely half a season is being criticised. The deal itself occurred because the club decided to remove a young boy who had been with them since the age of 6. “Absurd.”
Talking Tactics stated: “Unless you are relocated to the guest house.” The caption and choice of music are very provocative and likely to cause significant distress to a few individuals.
According to Colin Millar, Chelsea’s decision to sign Joao Felix seems to be motivated by their failure to sign Samu Omorodion. “Atletico Madrid requires a substantial amount of funds in order to secure the signing of Conor Gallagher.” It is truly an incomprehensible manner of managing a football club.
“It is evident that Behdad Eghbali, the co-owner, is currently overseeing all aspects of the business, including Gallagher & Felix and Sterling, who was a significant signing by Boehly.” “Clearlake is causing significant harm to us,” stated Fred.
Tommy Gunn expressed his strong disapproval of their performance, stating that he is not a supporter of theirs. Analytical Football, on the other hand, expressed astonishment and disappointment with Maresca’s decision to not allow Sterling any playing time. I hope he regains his previous level of performance. May you have a swift and successful journey, Sterling!”Sterling’s number is transferred to another individual while Sterling is still affiliated with the club.” “It’s an eccentric club,” remarked RedAntLFC, alluding to the fact that Sterling’s No.7 has been reassigned to the newly acquired player, Pedro Neto.
Sterling was deprived of his number and excluded from first-team training, despite his adherence to his contract and absence of any wrongdoing. “Utterly lacking in class,” remarked Magic hat. “How can anyone hold esteem for Chelsea’s proprietors and administration, including Maresca.”
Chelsea will endeavor to offload Sterling and Chilwell before the conclusion of the transfer window at the end of the month. Sterling has been presented as an option to Aston Villa and is reportedly being considered by Juventus, while it has been stated that Chilwell was suggested as a potential player for Manchester United. The Blues will want to offload the duo in the near future, while Maresca’s club get ready for Thursday’s Conference League match against Servette. After a span of three days, they will face Wolves in the Premier League.
